Uncovering Romano British Basingstoke & Deane Parish, Hampshire

The project aims to place new evidence in the context of Romano British rural settlement in the Parish of Basingstoke and Deane, Hampshire with particular emphasis for Basingstoke and 'Wheatsheaf' North Waltham a grey literature 1969 rescue excavation. The site is potentially Roman Vindomi.

Basingstoke is considered a New Town ... but is it?  The history of the town is well documented but the pre-history knowledge is sparse. This project will set out to go beneath the written history level and discover what really lies below visual ground surface of Basingstoke town and Parish.
